Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from the top,” the coach commented.

“It's important to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Recurring Issues and Player Reaction

Slot highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with performances this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
