Tim Southee's most recent Test for the Kiwis was against England in the final month of 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The former New Zealand seamer is expected to be present for the opening match because of his participation in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.

The 36-year-old, 36, took up a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Commenting as England's team for the opening of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was announced, Southee stated of his availability: "We're still working through the situation at the moment.

"We will determine what happens over the next little while."

English pace icon Broad had stated the Australian side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which begins on 21 November.

"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," he said.

"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

But, before England travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
