No league sells equal footing in the manner of the NFL: it defines their identity. Yet following 10 weeks of this season, this isn’t a league with perfect equilibrium among elite teams, poor performers, and average squads. Instead, it's a scenario where the majority of teams appear to be sufficient.

NFC Clarity

In the NFC, to some degree, there is some clarity. The Rams and Seahawks (both standing at seven wins, two losses) look like the most well-rounded squads in football, and delivered blowout wins in their weekend matchups. The 6-2 Eagles despite their struggles still have among the most gifted lineups in the league, likewise with Green Bay (five wins, two losses, one tie). Even the Lions (6-3), who have been inconsistent on offense and defense and have been dealing with internal staff conflicts, have demonstrated they're capable of dominating quality opponents. Regarding these five teams, it's straightforward to construct a Super Bowl path.

AFC Confusion

Turning to the American Football Conference, championship race remains completely chaotic. The four teams leading their divisions after ten games: the Colts, Patriots, Broncos (all standing at eight wins) and Steelers (5-4 record). Read that again. No Chiefs presence. No Bills inclusion. Neither Ravens nor Bengals. Historically strong franchises, supported by the league’s best quarterbacks, have either glaring roster weaknesses or are dealing with health issues.

Indianapolis Outlook

Beginning with the Colts, Daniel Jones hasn’t quite reached total collapse. But the last two weeks have caused alarm. He's reverting to committing turnovers and struggling against pressure. This follows he gave away possessions five times facing the Steelers.

The Colts attack performed well initially since Jones evaded the disaster plays. Jonathan Taylor and the offensive line ensure Indianapolis remains capable of overcoming some negative plays, as demonstrated overseas. Yet Jones going back to his old blunder-prone days would end championship hopes.

New England Patriots

The Patriots feel fairly alike. Previously, they were league laughingstocks. Now, they’re the NFL's most pleasant shock and the most successful franchise in football following seven consecutive victories. Except for fumbling away a winnable game versus the Steelers, they’d be sitting nine wins, one loss with the top standing. Last season, they appeared aged and sluggish. Currently they're youthful, quick and confident. Nevertheless, one cannot overlook how soft the Patriots’ schedule has been. They've encountered the most manageable schedule across the NFL, yet vulnerabilities remain. Their quarterback has been sacked thirty-five times – ranking second league-wide – with several hits he suffered last weekend proved brutal. With continued play, those hits add up.

Denver Analysis

Denver stands at 8–2 as well, and it still feels like they're nervously waiting. Their quarterback has performed unevenly, and the offensive unit laboring, as the defense handles most of the responsibility. Absent adequate signal-calling, the Broncos aren’t scaring any playoff team. The Chargers are also hovering in the AFC West at 7-2, however, health issues affecting their protection unit will make it tough to mount a deep postseason tilt.

Pittsburgh Situation

And then there’s Pittsburgh, inexplicably frontrunning the AFC North despite being thumped a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers during prime time. They have a negative point differential, their defense too often disappears, and Aaron Rodgers’ limitations given his veteran status continue to show up. They maintain a 5-4 record while surviving, yet Baltimore, featuring a recovered Jackson and the schedule softening, are riding a three-game streak. It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that the Ravens have narrowed within a game of the Steelers, but how rapidly this occurred highlights deficiencies within the Steelers' uneven performances. Considering the Ravens opened losing five of six yet still appear likely to claim the title reveals much about the entire AFC.

Historical Favorites

Baltimore constitutes part of the Big Three – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – driven by elite quarterback play, that would continue to generate the greatest concern in opposing teams should they reach postseason. They represent undesirable playoff matchups, however, both franchises cannot get out of their own way.

Buffalo Analysis

A week ago, the Bills were riding high following victory over Kansas City. On Sunday they suffered among the season's worst defeats during the campaign.
