People have gathered throughout the country to mark two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The incident resulted in more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel responded by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are considered reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"The aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed formal memorials until October 16th - after the end of the festive season - but ceremonies still were held around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected across the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' representatives convened in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of indirect talks to review the provisions of the agreement.

A high-ranking delegate familiar with the talks revealed that an evening round of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative explained the day's discussions finished without tangible results, due to differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not recommence hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He added that the talks are "challenging and have not yet achieve any real breakthrough," but noted that facilitators are striving to reduce the gaps between the both parties.

Critical Issues in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the captives still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance deliveries
  • Post-war governance of the region

Citizen Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member endured the incident on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and dozens more were captured by Hamas fighters - explained: "No place feels like home anymore and until every captive return none of us will be secure."

"After we see all home once more, we can relax once more. Then we can start to heal," she added.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports 48 stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist a participant explained: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the hostages to be released. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around 70% of the population want the conflict to conclude in return for the freedom of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of the gathering, grieving people came together to honor the dead.

From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In Gaza City, attacks were documented in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, area and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the night arrives, the anxiety comes with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack last year, explained.

"We are fearful of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my little child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be completed and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had accepted the corpses of half dozen people by the afternoon, including several who died in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

Nasser hospital in the south region of the city indicated another two dead people had been brought there. An individual was died by Israeli forces while looking for aid to the south, medics said.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
