Jurgen Klopp admits a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-season tenure featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I said I will never coach any other side in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to management, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, though he denied the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is challenging. Impossible.”
