Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
