Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
