Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
