The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
